On August 27, 2004 a near sellout crowd filled the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis for an evening with British Jazz legends Acoustic Alchemy. The group performed as a full band augmented by the saxophone artistry of blues great Eddie M. The audience was enamored by the melodically brilliant and rhythmically diverse sound of this ensemble. The group performed the benefit concert in honor of their co-founder, Nick Webb, who died of pancreatic cancer in 1998. The event raised significant funds to help support the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program at the Institute For Science And Health. This program seeks to conduct research geared toward early detection and diagnosis, targeted therapies, and hopefully a cure for pancreatic cancer. As part of a larger Gastrointestinal Diseases Program Initiative, the Institute intends to provide hope where little has existed before.
