Foundations and Funds
at the Institute for Science and Health

How to make a difference

To secure the funding necessary for the vital health-science research, the Institute offers a variety of options for a benefactor. Establishment of Foundations or Funds are two ways for interested parties to make a real and lasting difference.

Foundations

Foundations established through the Institute for Science and Health

The Institute for Science and Health is pleased to offer the opportunity for individuals, families, or other entities to establish a charitable foundation. Each Foundation has its own mission but benefits from the organizational support, activities and shared mission of the Institute.

By tying at least a portion of each Foundation's outreach to the research and education mission of the Institute, we collectively advance toward the goal of preserving human life by empowering research to forge a healthier tomorrow.

The Foundation principals determine the programs (both Institute operated and external) that will benefit from the Foundation assets. The involvement of the Foundation principals is ongoing, if desired, and the focus of a Foundation's outreach effort can be altered over time.

The Institute welcomes input on building synergy through individual Foundations. A Foundation's mission and goals may be targeted to one of our existing Program Initiatives or to new Program Initiatives involving health concerns that fall within the scope of our mission.

Advantages of establishing a foundation through the Institute

Because the Institute's non-profit status serves as a 501(c)(3) umbrella for any Foundations maintained by and working with the Institute, there is a significant advantage in establishing a foundation under our auspices. Start-up time is very rapid allowing a Foundation to begin making a real difference very rapidly. Expenses that can significantly diminish funds available for stand-alone individual or family Foundations, such as set-up costs, regulatory filings/applications, and accounting/auditing expenses, are minimal for Institute operated foundations. This provides flexibility in operations, as well as in the ability to maximize the amount of financial resources driven to each Foundation's goals.

The process for establishing the name of a Foundation at the Institute is also very flexible, allowing for expression of the desires and preferences of the Foundation's principals.

Funds established at the Institute for Science and Health

The Institute for Science and Health is pleased to offer the opportunity for individuals, families, or other entities to establish a Fund for the purpose of supporting health-science research. Funds are established for a particular cause (disease or condition) and remain as such in perpetuity. Funds are generally named for the disease or condition of interest. All Fund assets are dedicated to the Research Program Initiative most closely related to the cause. Fund assets are subject to certain fees.
