A Full Professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) since 1995, Dr. Heidi Foth is the Director of the Institute of Environmental Toxicology there. Dr. Foth is a registered toxicologist and has frequently consulted with government institutions and clinical staff at Universities. She has contributed her expertise in the field to many studies, including those at the University of Göttingen, where she held the title of Associate Professor from 1992-1995. Her extensive professional experience has involved research on lung and liver metabolism, the primary culture of lung cells, toxicokinetics, clinical toxicology and environmental health.

Dr. Foth, as the recipient of a German National Merit Foundation scholarship, attained her doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Mainz in 1981. She worked on her post-doctoral fellowship there at both the Institute of Pharmacology and the Institute of Toxicology before attaining her MD in 1984. Afterwards, she served as a Research Fellow, Toxicologist, and Associate Professor at the University of Göttingen until April 1995, when she accepted the directorship of Martin Luther University's Institute of Environmental Toxicology.

Dr. Foth currently chairs the German Society of Toxicology (www.toxikologie.de) and co-chairs the German Society of Experimental & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology (DGPT). As a Member of the EUROTOX Executive Committee, Dr. Foth chaired the 2002 international conference "Risk Assessment and Management of Large Contamination Sites". She serves the German government as a member of two advisory committees, one on drug safety (BfArm) and another on intoxication and chemical safety (BfR). In addition, Dr. Foth is a member of the advisory committee on chemicals (BUA), and was recently appointed chairman of the Institute for Occupational Physiology's advisory council (IFADo, University of Dortmund).
