ST. LOUIS RAMS’ SAFETY OSHIOMOGHO ATOGWE AWARDS $50,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS
TO FOUR DESERVING GRADUATES

Scholarships Offered to Students in Atogwe’s Hometown of Windsor, Ontario

Tuesday, May 25, 2010, was the announcement day for the winners of the 2010 Oshiomogho Atogwe I Am Foundation Scholarship Contest. Oshiomogho awarded four scholarships to senior students who are college or university bound from a Greater Essex County District School in Ontario, Canada ranging from $10,000 - $20,000.

Timothy Dyck of Kingsville District High School was the recipient of the $20,000 scholarship for outstanding achievement. Dyck will be attending the University of Waterloo in the Fall of 2010.

Three $10,000 scholarships were also awarded, one for male students, one for female students, and one for students of African decent.

Bryden Brockman of Essex District High School received the $10,000 scholarship for male students given in honor of Oshiomogho’s former football coach, Harry Lumley. Brockman will be attending Fanshawe College in the Fall of 2010.

Savina Kular of Vincent Massey Secondary School was awarded the $10,000 scholarship for female students given in memory of a friend, Jacqueline Moore. Kular will be attending the University of Windsor in the Fall of 2010.

Tola Omolade of Vincent Massey Secondary School received the $10,000 scholarship for students of African decent given in memory of John Atogwe. Omolade will be attending the University of Windsor in the Fall of 2010.

In order to apply for the scholarships, students must be college or university bound seniors from a Greater Essex County District School and have a minimum average of 60 percent in grade 11 and 12 courses. The application included a typewritten personal essay (500 words or less) on “How the Oshiomogho Atogwe Foundation Scholarship Will Assist Me in Fulfilling My Goals,” a student biography, academic record of achievement, personal recommendation from two sources, and proof of application to an accredited college or vocational school.
As a senior at W.F. Herman Secondary School in Windsor, Ontario, Oshiomogho Atogwe was active in his community and school. He attended Stanford where he was a standout football player and graduated with a degree in biological science.
Oshiomogho was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the first pick in the third round in the 2005 NFL Draft. Atogwe is one of the premier safeties on the football field, but he is also one of the classiest and most giving athletes in the NFL. Oshiomogho truly makes a difference in people’s lives through his work with local schools and by donating his time and money to various charitable causes. The Oshiomogho Atogwe I Am Foundation at the Institute for Science and Health is making an impact in the lives of at-risk youth with an emphasis on programs in the areas of education, literacy, and wellness.
